When editing the photos I felt like I didn't need to do much with them part from tidy up the lose strands of hair and edit my models dry lips. My favourite part is how natural the face is (part from the water colour), it shows the person being 100% them, hiding nothing as the watercolour was to represent their imperfections.

Final Phobia Images (Edited)
MAC Final Image (edited)
Overall I'm really happy how this shoot and editing went for these set of images, I even learnt new skills on photoshop, which I'm really proud of (even though it is very basic). I also felt like I didn't need to airbrush too much which made me happy.
Evaluation
Overall I am happy with how
everything went during this unit. I felt like I've learnt so many new skills
(including new lighting set ups) that will help me in the future. The start of
this semester, our lessons were really important because Chris taught us new
set ups. It has helped me improve the quality of my images so much.
When it came to my final shoots, I was worried I would forget how to set it up but I had the help of few classmates and we set up our shoots together. Felt weird not having Chris tell us what was right or wrong but we did eventually get everything put up. I did both images in in two sessions. I really liked both shoots but my favourite one was my word shoot. I really enjoyed applying the make-up and taking the photos for it.
When it
came to editing the photos, I changed my brand image into black and white with
only the lips in colour. I retouched my word images by taking away any spots
and adjusted the contrast. I am so happy with the final images and I really liked
my word images the most.

Feedback
In my feedback with Sharon today, I went in confident with my images even thought they weren't the final photos. I showed Sharon my images and discussed what changes were need to the photos. I had one photo that I thought would be my final photo but I was told to crop out a lot of it to make it look more sleek and professional. It completely changed the photo and made such a difference, so I'm glad I had Sharon check my image before I handed it in. She was happy once I cropped that out and said my model looked like goddess.
With my second set of images, she was pleased with my concept and the make up but picked up on a few little bit that stopped it from being 100% perfect. It was few strands of hair that were out of place and dry lips (even though the model had lip balm on). When it comes to editing the images I will make sure to change that to help make my image look the best it can.
But overall I'm happy with the feedback I got from Sharon today and made me feel more confident about handing my images in. I feel like I have improved so much in one semester and can what a difference it has had on my work. I can't wait to see what second year brings for us and what units we will have then.

Phobia Photoshoot Images
Here are my final chosen unedited images for my chosen word shoot. I used two soft box lights pointing towards my model but facing the camera along with a soft box on a bomb light looking at my model and above where I was my tripod was.
This is by far my favourite shoot I have done and I loved doing research for this project. I had seen a similar kind of look done before and always wanted to create my own version. I also glad how I represented how people go throughly daily struggles with their own bodies and face. Showing how someones imperfection can be seen as a perfection to others.
I can already tell there is a few things I will like to edit from the photos, including the dry/cracked lips and the few strands of hair sticking out. I'd also like to make the paint stand out more, so I'll play around with the adjustment/contrast settings. I can't wait to see the final image and to hand it in.
Evaluation from Digital Image 1
"I like your writing style, adding a personal edge to things is always entertaining to read. Technical blog is well rounded and decent personal reflection and interpretation which I really like. I wish there was more photography notes and practice shots that show some development and (not meaning to repeat myself but) practice. You mention that photographers everywhere are shouting at you, but I actually rather like the shadows there. Which brings me onto the final images, the black and white pictures are well exposed, decently composed and fit the brief really well, the colour images while they are a different lighting setup they just seem a bit of an after thought. The styling is exactly the same as the other shots, and they feel like they've had very little to no post production applied, which is a real shame. Especially so as your monochrome images are so strong."
For my first digital image images I was pleasantly happy with my images but know I could have made the make up more daring. I was pleased with my feedback, I know my images weren't perfect but for my first attempt I was really proud of what I did and I no feel like I've progressed to do better for next semester. I hope my writing skills are just as entertaining (hopefully even better this time). I am will definitely considering doing practise shots next semester as I feel like they will help me decide what is good and what I can change for the real shoot. I know to give myself more time to write my blog posts, as last time I spent two nights staying up till the early morning making sure I got them down (and I did it without coffee, so I am proud of that).
Overall I feel like I have learnt so much from just one semester and already learnt from my mistakes. I can't wait to start the new project to learn new lighting set ups with Chris and use my new improved skills to the test.
MAC Hair Chart: 2
My second idea I was thinking of wetting the hair and pulling the hair right back behind the ears. Pushing it all back will show the whole face and vulnerability of the make up on the face. I would achieve this look by applying VO5 wet look styling gel to the front of the hair and combing it through the rest of the hair. Combing it will make sure all parts of the hair is pulled back behind the ears and no little bits would come lose. I'm still not sure how far I'd like the hair to bit wet as I'll be taking photos from the front, but on the day I will decide what will work and what won't work.
Out of the two designs this is my favourite one, purely because I like how different it is for an editorial. For this shoot/design in general I wanted to capture a sleek look and will complete the overall look that I would like for this shoot.
MAC Hair Chart: 1
My first hair chart for my brand shoot is a slicked bob/fringe pulled past the ears and will be completely flat. I want this to be a super sleek and clean look, with nothing out of place. I feel like this would make the images look more professional and up to the MAC standards of their adverts/posters.
I would need someone with short hair for this look to work. To create the look I would use style the front so it would cover the forehead and would be placed behind the ear. To keep it super sleek I would apply (a lot) of hairspray to make sure it stayed and was flat. I really like this idea but I do have another idea in mind and this would be my second option as it would be hard to find someone with short hair that I'd need for this look.
MAC Face Chart: Final idea
My final look is my favourite look out of all three designs. I wanted to create a bold red colour on the lips and a nice but slightly dark eyeshadow but nothing as dark as the lips, so when it comes to editing it would still stand out in photos.
To create this look I would start with foundation base then powder, I would apply a dark red lipstick on the lips, I would also slightly contour the cheeks and jawline so they'd look more defined. With the eyeshadow I was thinking of using an urban decay palette 2, the colour YDK. I feel like it still has the bold statement that MAC normally has but in my own design.
MAC Face Chart: 2
My second brand design is a baby pink lip colour and gold shimmer on the eyelids. I liked this idea because it's not as bold as some of MAC images but still makes bold statement with the pink lipstick. I liked the idea of having a bright gold on the eyelids as a cool editorial look. I have seen a few images from MAC that only focus on the lips and a basic foundation on the face, whilst using their arms and certain shading so you only focus on the lips. If I was to pick this look I would either make my model use her arms to help create the shadow or get cut out shapes to help create the shadow.
MAC Face Chart: 1
My first idea for my brand shoot design I wanted to go for a black lip and a nude eye shadow to make the lip stand out more. MAC is all about bold statements and as I picked lipstick as the product I would be "advertising" I think using such a dark. bold colour would be great way to do so. I would be a very basic make u- but I would make sure the lighting would have funky bright colours to make the photos look more interesting and catch peoples attention.
MAC photoshoot images
Here our a few of my final images that I took for my brand shoot. I am so happy with how it went and I really look forward to editing my favourite photos but it's going to be hard to pick a final photo as I have so many good shots. I'm thinking of editing my final photo to black and white and living the lips in colour to make it stand out more. This is because MAC is constantly promoting new lipsticks and even when not advertising a new lipstick the looks are really bold. I also think my model has great bone structure and helps the make up look really defined.
Word Inspired Face Chart; Final idea
My final idea I liked the idea of using watercolour representing the imperfection on somebodies face. I changed the colours as I thought they would blend in better together and stand out more in the photos. As I said in previous post I would apply one colour first on one side of the face and let a droplet fall down the cheek. I would then apply the other colour and let another droplet fall slightly near the corner of the eye. On the other side it would be placed under the eye but no droplets would fall.
Word Inspired Face Chart; 2
For my second idea I wanted to represent someone with perfect make up but having a pieces broken off that shows their imperfection. They would almost look like a broken china doll but more realistic.
I would start off by applying make up for as a nice beauty look, then I'd apply black likes round the eye to make it appear like a piece is missing. To finish the look I'd fill the eye with either ruined make-up or water colour to represent the imperfection.
Word Inspired Face Chart; 1
For my first idea I didn't want to go down a scary route, as phobia is somebodies fears. I wanted to make it aware that in 21st Century people constantly have doubts about themselves, picking out their imperfections. For this idea I wanted to represent somebodies imperfection (like a birthmark) with water colour paint. I would start with the blue and let it droplet fall down to the middle of the cheek. Then I would apply the green colour next to the blend and blend it in the middle.
Word Inspired Hair Chart; 3
My third and final idea for my word hair chart design is a messy bun with lose bits of hair curled by the side of the face. I feel like this is a modern style and would look really nice with my final make up design. I would pull the hair into a high ponytail, leaving few bits of hair on the each side of the face. Then place the ponytail into a bun, to create a messy bun I'd pull bits of hair out lightly.

For my word hair idea, I wanted to have my model with natural kind of hair, slightly curly but messy. Just how somebody would look on daily basis. To get this look I would I curl the hair with curling tongs and just let the curls fall into place. I will have more of a natural look when I take the photos.

Final Mood Board for MAC
For my brand mood board, I took images from the internet and my previous mood boards that helped me understand the brand by looking at MACs original adverts. I realised MAC focuses on part of the face and gives it a bold look. I am going to pick the lips to focus on for my shoot, as I hope to edit the photos into black and white then make sure just the lips are in colour so it stands out. I feel like this will give the edge that MAC normally has in their shoots.
Final Mood Board for Phobia
Atelophobia
Atelophobia is a condition wherein a particular person exhibits an extreme concern of failing to achieve perfection in any of their actions, ideas, or beliefs. This extremely sensitized and fearful aversion to any type of imperfection of their lives can cause people to develop into highly vital of anything they are saying or do, always fearing that their choices are flawed and never good enough.
This fear is a phobia and I wanted to relate it to someone having an imperfection. It's a serious condition and lots of people think a certain part of them isn't perfect. I want to speak out for every person that thought they had imperfection, when actually it's perfect to others around them.

Paint Marks/Fight
For my word shoot I wanted to represent someones imperfections, to them they see it as something that is wrong with them, but to us it's a beautiful mark. To create this beautiful mark, I tried to think of a way to represent it but in a nice colourful way. I'm a big fan of paint fights and powder paint, I think it looks so pretty with different colours. I wanted someones imperfection to be a birthmark around the eye (example of the middle bottom photo).
Moodboard: Brand
When researching ideas for my moodboard, I knew MAC can have a light, very natural look with it's make-up. It was really hard to find images of MAC adverts because it has another part (VIVA Glam).

VIVA Glam is a lot stronger look and is based on lips because they are selling lipsticks that proceedings go to HIV/AIDS.

I love mixing a natural look but with a dark lip colour for my final look idea. I would edit the photos to be in black and white but make sure the lips were in colour for it to stand out more. I will try to make sure to using shading to my advantage so it makes the lips stand out.
